Thousands of poker players from around the world gathered together outside of Vienna, Austria, to compete in the Baden European Poker Tour event. Famous poker pros like Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Rousso, Barry Greenstein and Katja Thater also showed up to play in the event, which started on Sunday and continued through Wednesday.

English poker player Julian Thew, from Nottingham, was the winner of the Baden Open and took home €670,800, after defeating Hungarian player Denes Kalo in the final table. This is Thew’s second important victory in two months, the first one being the Plymouth leg of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour in September, when he won £59,500.

The buy-in for the Baden European Poker Tour was €8,000 and the 282 players created a total fund of €2.14 million. The field was quite tough but during the final table of eight, cards fell well for Thew and he played them accordingly, which finally paid off.
