Swedish police authorities raided the 2007 European Poker Challenge tournament and arrested the two organizers of the event. This action was in response to a criminal case charged against them by a prosecutor and, if convicted, they could be sentenced to spend four years in prison.

Apparently, the Swedish government argues that it is illegal to host unauthorized private tournaments for profit like the EPC.

The 700 players that showed up for the event were surprised in action and had to return home empty-handed as the event was cancelled. The prize pool for this year’s tournament was €175,000.

The European Poker Challenge is one of the biggest poker tournaments in the continent. Last year’s event had a lot of success and it was very well received by the players who were looking forward to this year’s tournament to repeat the fun.
