ALTOONA, Iowa.- Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino is scaling back its expansion plans.

The Des Moines Register, citing marketing director Tom Manning, reported that the Altoona casino will ask state regulators next month to approve a $60 million expansion. That's down from a $110 million plan outlined last summer.

The latest plan includes room for an additional 30 table games and 500 new slot machines. But a 200-room hotel and parking garage are not included.

Polk County owns the casino and county supervisors must approve the plan before it goes to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.

Tuesday night, the casino opened its new card gaming area, which includes 16 blackjack tables, several roulette and craps games and nine poker tables.

Now, casino officials want to expand to the tune of 110 million dollars. That would double the new number of table games at the casino. A restaurant and hotel would also be added.

The plan must win approval from the casino's board, the Polk County Supervisors and state regulators.
