The Quapaw Indian Tribe announced this week its intentions to build a hotel and casino in Oklahoma, close to Kansas and Missouri. The Quapaw’s Downstream Casino Resort will cost $200 million and will include a 240-room hotel, a casino, several restaurants, shops and a 10,000-square-foot convention room.
According to John Berrey, chairman of the Quapaw Tribe, the resort will generate about 1,200 direct jobs.

That is according to the recent ruling by the Advisory Council, in response to a claim presented by the French company that exploits the Tranchant casinos. That company had many ambitious plans to open several casinos in the lucrative territory of Netherlands, whose population is very much in love with chance games.
Pennsylvania gaming board approves electronic blackjack
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has decided to allow casinos in the state to offer the Table Master, an electronic table game that features a virtual dealer. This new game could substitute table games like blackjack and poker, which are prohibited in the state.
The Table Master allows up to five players to play at one time. Gamblers sit at separate seats before a flat-screen TV, where the virtual blackjack or poker dealer is shown. Each player competes against the dealer and one individual's play doesn't affect anyone else's odds or results.
Poker stars show up at the Irish Poker Open
Some of the most important European and US poker players have already confirmed their presence at the 26th Irish Poker Open that will take place at the Burlington Hotel, in Dublin, on April 6 through 9 2007.
Renowned actress and professional poker player Jennifer Tilly will play the main event as well as Mike Sexton, who has won a World Series of Poker bracelet and hosts the World Poker Tour television series. Antonio Esfandari, another WSOP winner, and his fellow countrymen Chad Brown will also be competing for the main title.
Portuguese Backgammon Open tournament in May
The second edition of the “Portuguese Open” will take place in May 16-20th, 2007. It will be preceded by the "Grand Prix d´Estoril," which is limited to 32 teams and will have over 12.000 € added money.
The tournament will count towards the European Backgammon Tour (EBGT), where the “European Master 2007” is defined. The event is presented by the World Backgammon Association, Estoril Tourism Board and Casino Estoril, the largest casino in Europe.
Poker Tourney busted in Sweden
Swedish police authorities raided the 2007 European Poker Challenge tournament and arrested the two organizers of the event. This action was in response to a criminal case charged against them by a prosecutor and, if convicted, they could be sentenced to spend four years in prison.
Apparently, the Swedish government argues that it is illegal to host unauthorized private tournaments for profit like the EPC. The 700 players that showed up for the event were surprised in action and had to return home empty-handed as the event was cancelled.
American Football stars fight over blackjack game
Joey Porter, Miami Dolphins linebacker, has been summoned by Las Vegas police for misdemeanor after been accused of punching Cincinnati Bengals offensive lineman Levi Jones during a blackjack game at Las Vegas Palms Casino.
This is not the first time both players are in trouble. In 2004, Jones was arrested for trying to take away a baton from a police officer during a bar fight.
PokerTek launches to the world the new automatic poker table
PokerTek announced the launching of PokerPro Heads-Up, the first electronic table for poker of two seats. James Crawford, president of PokerTek, said that “Poker players love the heads up, and the casino operators are continuously looking for ways to satisfy the client’s needs. PokerTek has found an option for the casinos that is lucrative for them”.
“We think there is a great demand from the poker players, of heads-up in our casino”, the CEO of Bicycle Casino said.
L.A. Poker Classic is a success
The L.A. Poker Classic that is taking place at the elegant Commerce Casino, attracted 791 players who paid $10,000 to have a chance to win the $2.4 million prize that will go for the first place. Players who make it to the final table will receive a guaranteed prize of at least $250,000.
The best 54 players will be competing for a prize pool of more than $7.9 million, which means that the 2007 L.A. Poker Classic is the largest $10,000 buy-in event in the history of the World Poker Tour.
